Priya is a co-founder of Indentured & Remembered and assists in research, event planning, communications, and community building. Through food, art, and conversation we explore how colonization works to erase our narrative - from Guyana, Fiji, Trinidad, Mauritius, Jamaica, Grenada, Suriname, etc. - and uncover the nuanced, vast, and vibrant story of our roots. Together we will shift from generational trauma towards generational healing, in a practice based on remembrance, pride, kinship, and knowledge. On August 24th, I&R hosted their first event at New Women’s Space which consisted of an educational workshop, community discussion facilitated by Priya, film screenings, as well as art and food. In 2020, they hope to host more targeted healing workshops and teach-in’s at universities, community spaces, and more.

Photographs from our first event below were taken by Nadeena Seodarsan, and our logo is by Crystal Simone.
